SPRING HILL, Tenn. --

A Spring Hill police officer injured in a crash Friday night died at Vanderbilt Medical Center Sunday.

Officials confirm Cpl. Jeremy McLaren died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.

McLaren's leg was broken in the crash at the intersection of Highway 31 North and Bear Creek near the Columbia city limits.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a red truck driven by Billy Colen Stafford of Shelbyville ran through a red light at the intersection, and collided with McLaren's cruiser. The impact pushed the officer's car into a nearby parking lot. McLaren had to be cut out of the wreckage.

McLaren underwent surgery to insert pins in his broken leg on Saturday.

Earlier in the morning, Spring Hill Police Chief John H. Smith said McLaren's condition was improving and he had been getting up and moving around.

Stafford and his passenger, Jina Pratt of Columbia, were both injured. THP officials said they were transported to Vanderbilt for treatment. Pratt was released from the hospital Saturday. There was no information available on Stafford's condition.

According to the THP, there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs at the scene. No one has been cited or arrested in connection with the wreck.

Mclaren was a standout officer & a Class Act..
I just want people to know that I spent some casual discussion time Jeremy recently, as well as needing his assistance/advice with a minor civil issue.

He was the epitome of the professional & courteous Police Officer, & a one of a kind guy. We will miss him greatly in the City of Spring Hill..

The first thing that came to mind when I read about the surgery to insert pins in his leg was a blood clot, which is a common possibility in any medical repair dealing with pins, wires, screws, etc. This was horrible.

The article was also confusing to me. Rest in peace, and my prayers go out to the family.

Officer McLaren saved my sons' life as well as his 3 friends. These kids snuck out one night and ended up in a car with an older teen who was DUI, a true nightmare for a parent. God put this officer where he needed to be that night. He was a perfect gentleman, role model, and a leader in our community. You will ALWAYS be remembered by all of us. Rest in peace Officer McLaren.

Yes, it was the driver of the truck, & not Jeremy who ran the light.. It appears at least at this point to have been human error, but the investigation is ongoing.. No drugs or alcohol were found, or thought to be involved from the information that is available so far..
