Corporal J.R. Searcy was backing up a partner on an aggravated assault call when he was shot by the suspect. His suspect returned fire, killed the assailant.

Read the story, then rewrite it, his partner killed the assialant, not his suspect. Proof read, proof read, then proof read again. No really mistakes happen.

"His suspect returned fire, killed the assailant." What kind of goofy statement is this? Should this not be written as: His [partner] returned fire, killed the assailant.

My condolence to the family of the slain officer. However the 3rd sentence should read, "His partner returned fire, killing the suspect."

deputy was shot
the deputy worked with me on the night shift before transferring to days. i was there when the ambulance loaded one of my friends, cpl.j.r. searcy, into the ambulance. i was very sadden. he was a good deputy and daddy. we are all going to miss him at the ouachita parish sheriffs dept. also the comments are correct, the backup deputy shot and killed the suspect. may my good friend and four wheeler riding partner rest in peace. god bless
