A Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office captain was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car yesterday while escorting a Mardi Gras float, according to The Courier.

Capt. Timothy Joel Bergeron was struck at about 7 a.m. at La. 311 and Krumbhaar Drive. He was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center, where he died.

Bergeron was escorting a float on his motorcycle with his blue lights flashing and siren activated when he was hit by an oncoming car.

The 49-year-old captain is a 25-year veteran of the department and leaves behind a wife and five children.
