Editor's Note: According to the Georgia State Patrol, Ordiance Officer Kathy Cox was on duty and was driving a Gordon County Sheriff's Office vehicle at the time of the collision.

An armored vehicle owned by a Chattanooga firm was involved in a fatal wreck in Gordon County, Ga., on Thursday.

The Georgia State Patrol said charges are pending against Daniel Allen Clark of Fort Payne, Ala., who was driving a Loomis Fargo armored truck.

Gordon County Ordinance Officer Kathy Cox was killed in the fiery crash on Georgia Highway 136 near Hall Memorial Road when the truck went over into her lane.

Ms. Cox, 50, from Resaca was driving her pickup truck when she was struck head on shortly before noon.

The Georgia State Patrol said the armored truck was traveling east when the vehicle in front of it slowed down. The truck skidded into the path of the Ford F-150 driven by Ms. Cox.

The pickup truck became engulfed in flames.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kathy Ann Cox will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Blackwood Springs Baptist Church with Shane Parrott and Rev. Ken Conner officiating.

The family will receive friends at the sanctuary of the Trinity Baptist Church on Saturday evening beginning at 5:00 p.m. Honorary escort will compose of the staff and employees of the Gordon County Government; the Gordon County Fire Department; Gordon EMS; Calhoun Fire Department; Gordon County Sheriff’s Office; Georgia State Patrol; City of East Ellijay, Calhoun Police Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The family and honorary escort will assemble at the residence; 693 Greeson Road in the Nicklesville Community on Sunday at 12:30 pm to depart in procession to the church for funeral service. The family request flowers be omitted and contributions be made to the Gordon County Winners Club or the American Diabetes Association.
