A 22-year-old man who was being held at the Columbia County Jail escaped on Thursday afternoon, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Department.
The man, identified as Troy Kratz, apparently escaped at about 5:25 p.m., running into an area known as "the gully," which is just one block from the jail.
Kratz is described as about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He has a shaved head and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and zip-up gray sweatshirt. He had his right hand cuffed to a waist chain.
He's described as a high-risk inmate and will likely become physically aggressive if confronted.
Authorities are advising the public to call 911 if they see a person matching Kratz's description.
