SAN DIEGO --

The U.S. Border Patrol has recorded close to 100 more assaults against agents so far in 2008 than last year.

The latest incident happened at the San Ysidro crossing over the weekend, 10News reported.

A video taken from an area east of the San Ysidro Port of Entry known as "the soccer field" showed a man shooting rocks from a slingshot at an agent near the border.

The agent was not hurt, but according to the Border Patrol it is a growing trend. Agents said people are targeting border officials now more than ever before.

Since Oct. 1, 2007, there have been 340 cases -- up from 254 the year before.

Some cases have turned deadly, with one agent, Luis Aguilar, being killed in January.

In that case, a suspected smuggler struck Aguilar while he was trying to place spike strips.

The Border Patrol said when the U.S. steps up its patrols along the border, drug cartels retaliate with violence against law enforcement.

Despite the danger, agents said they will continue to protect the border.

NO WONDER!!!
Thers no wonder why Border Patrol is losing agents.Who wants to be an agent with this kind of crap going down!On top of that you have a U.S. lawyer ready to shoot you down for doing your job. Then you have the U.S. government letting the illegals in!It's all a big scam.Thats why we can't get rid of the thousands of illegals already here.I.C.E. is a big joke to illegals. They know the system better than the agents do.It's like they take border jumping class in school like we take gym class!Electric fences, mine fields, and agents with 50 cal. sniper rifles is how you secure a border!

Why wouldn't you give the Border Patrol Agents a hard time. If you reach for a gun and they shoot you in the a$$ you get rewarded alot of money by the government. You can then turn around and invest that money in drugs to smuggle across the border. Targeting Agents could become very lucrative.

Is this any surprise? Our own government doesn't respect them, of course that's going to rub off on the illegals.

Border Violence
The violence is escalating because the Mexicans know the BP agents are being crucified by federal prosecutors for defending themselves and our border! Meanwhile perps get a free pass to come and go as they please so that they can tell their version of why they trespassed into the United States!

I'm a BPA and work that area. The violence has increased in the last few years, but it still isn't out of control. Slingshot? We've got guys and girls with full auto Colt M4's and Remington 870's. One just shot a rock thrower a few weeks ago with a .223. We'll keep doing it until the attacks stop.

The Ramos and Compean convictions were ridiculous but we aren't giving the criminals a free pass in San Diego.
