Wisconsin Sheriff's Deputy Wounded in Shooting

A Wood County deputy was shot and wounded responding to a report of a suicidal person.

ARPIN, Wisconsin -- A Wood County deputy was shot and wounded while responding to a report of a suicidal person Tuesday night.

Deputies responded to an address on State 186 near Wood County North in the village of Arpin after receiving a the call around 8 a.m., according to The Wisconsin Rapids Tribune.

Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker told the newspaper that deputy suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was flown by helicopter to a local hospital.

Officials could not provide any more information but said the public was not in danger Tuesday evening.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.
