Wisconsin Firefighter Shot and Killed, Officer Wounded

An Appleton firefighter was fatally shot and a police officer was wounded while responding to a medical call Wednesday evening.

APPLETON, Wisconsin -- An Appleton firefighter was fatally shot and a police officer was wounded while responding to a medical call Wednesday evening.

First responders were dispatched to the 100 Block of East Washington Street when the incident escalated into shots being fired, according to a news release.

Four people were injured as a result of the incident and all were transported to local hospitals.

The wounded firefighter, a 14-year veteran of the department was pronounced dead at the hospital. The wounded police officer is currently recovering.

The scene is contained with no ongoing threat to the community.

The Green Bay Police Department responded and will investigate the incident with the assistance of other agencies.
