Suspect in Custody in Standoff That Left Ohio Deputy Dead, Another Deputy Wounded

Wade Edward Winn was in custody early Sunday morning following a 12-hour standoff that left Clermont County Sheriff's Detective Bill Brewer dead and Lt. Nick DeRose wounded.

PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A suspect was in custody early Sunday morning following a 12-hour standoff that left a Clermont County deputy dead and another deputy wounded.

A SWAT team moved in on The Green at Royal Oak Apartments where 23-year-old Wade Edward Winn had barricaded himself and started a two-alarm fire before surrendering around 6:35 a.m., according to WCPO-TV.

Detective Bill Brewer, a 20-year veteran of the force was killed in the standoff that began around 7 p.m. Saturday. Lt. Nick DeRose, a 22-year veteran, was treated and released from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations is handling the investigation of the standoff and the Ohio Fire Marshal is directing the fire investigation.

Brewer is survived by his wife their 5-year-old son.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
