U.S. Marshal Dead, Two Pennsylvania Police Officers Wounded While Serving Warrant

Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher David Hill was killed and two police officers were wounded.

A veteran U.S. Marshals deputy was killed and two police officers were wounded while serving a warrant in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Thursday morning.

U.S. Marshal Christopher David Hill and the officers were part of a task force conducting the warrant on a fugitive at a home near South 18th and Mulberry streets when the shooting occurred around 6:10 a.m., according to PennLive.com.

The 11-year veteran was wounded by a man in the home with Shayla Lynette Towles Pierce, who was wanted by the Harrisburg police for terroristic threat offenses.

The suspect who fired upon the officers died when police returned fire. Pierce was taken into custody. The two wounded police officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Hill was transported to UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We are all extremely saddened by the tragic death of our brother, Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher Hill, this morning in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  He was a devoted public servant who dedicated his life to making his community and this nation safer. We will never forget his commitment and courage," David J. Anderson, Acting Deputy Director of the U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement. "The nation lost a hero today."

Hill joined the marshals in 2006 in Washington, D.C., and transferred to Harrisburg in 2009. He also served with the agency's Special Operations Group. He was an Army veteran who served from 1993 to 1996. He is survived by his wife and two children.
