Manuel J. Aviles and Felipe Cortes-Barajas were arrested Thursday for opening fire on a Washington State Patrol trooper in a shootout that left a patrol car riddled with bullets.

Two suspects were arrested for opening fire on a Washington State Patrol trooper Thursday morning following a days-long manhunt.

Manuel J. Aviles, 18, and Felipe Cortes-Barajas, 39, were arrested without incident by SWAT team members in the Monday shootout in Grandview that left a patrol car riddled in bullets, according to a news release.

The two men were booked into the Yakima County Jail for assault one and unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and Violation of the Uniform Controlled Substance Act.

The confrontation began when a trooper attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Oct. 23 around 9:08 p.m. at State Route 241 near Alexander Road. After a six minute pursuit, which reached speeds of more than 100 mph, the suspect vehicle pulled into a residence along Forsell Road in Grandview and stopped.

Two suspects then exited the vehicle and opened fire on the trooper. Multiple shots from the gunmen struck the trooper's patrol car, damaging the front end and windshield of the vehicle, as well as the in-car computer.

Both suspects fled on foot through a vineyard and remained at large until Thursday.

The trooper was uninjured in the incident, which is currently under investigation.
