DANE COUNTY, WIsconsin -- A Dane County sheriff’s deputy was injured Monday night when an inmate charged with shooting two men and killing one of them at a 7-Eleven last month choked her in an elevator at the Dane County Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Curtis J. Langlois, 37, was in full restraints and headed back to his cell on the seventh floor of the City-County Building after a visitation when he became upset and agitated toward one of the three deputies accompanying him and threatened her life, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Elise Schaffer said.

In the elevator, Langlois got his handcuffed hands around the deputy’s neck and choked her until the three deputies regained control of him, according to Schaffer. The deputy was taken to a hospital and released after she received treatment, she said.

Langlois faces new tentative charges of resisting arrest, battery to a law enforcement officer, and strangulation, according to Schaffer.

The injured deputy was also threatened by Langlois during an incident at the jail earlier this month, Schaffer said. According to a criminal complaint, Langlois was charged with threatening a deputy after he continually told her from his cell, “I’ll (expletive) kill you! Pop this door! I’m not just gonna kill you, I’m gonna snap your neck!”

Langlois has been in jail since he was charged with first-degree intentional homicide after police say he fatally shot Kendrith J. Young, as well as attempted first-degree intentional homicide after he shot Rodney Lemon Jr., at the 7-Eleven on the West Beltline on Aug. 2.

Dametrius Reeves, 27, who police say was with Langlois during the shooting, faces similar charges.
