Brockton Police Captain Mark Porcaro saved two teenagers from a fiery crash Thursday night.

BROCKTON, Massachusetts -- Brockton Police Captain Mark Porcaro saved two teenagers from a fiery crash Thursday night thanks to “alert and quick thinking,” the police department said on Twitter.

Porcaro was patrolling the area moments before the teens’ car crashed into a vacant building near Frederick Douglas Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

The police captain was able to assist the two occupants in getting away from the scene before the car and building caught fire. Police wrote that the captain’s swift action saved the teens from serious injury.

Authorities told WHDH that the driver and passenger were transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center with minor injuries. The building fire proved difficult to extinguish, and required foam from a dry chemical extinguisher, Brockton Deputy Fire Chief Brian Nardelli told WHDH.

It is unclear what caused the serious crash, and no charges have been reported.
