Sad
I always hate to see stuff like this. My wonderful former agency seemed to try to drive officers having problems to suicide. Officers who self identified problems were usually humiliated and hassled at every turn. One of our guys that asked for counseling after a triple child homicide got put on a desk, gun and badge pulled and the media told it was for "an unspecified personnel investigation" and sent to 12 different docs when they kept getting reports clearing him for full duty and some outpatient counseling. Too many agencies pulls crap like that. At least he was retired so his agency couldnt dick him around anymore.

Awesome JOB DOD Officers!!!
Great job shooting the scumbag 4 times center mass, or close to it. I know with your Beretta M9 with FMJ Ball Ammo it was very challenging to take the suspect down. Usually with ball ammo you have to shoot the suspect in the head or spine to immediately incapacitate them. Hopefully the Army and all other DOD Police will finally catch on and at least arm their officers with Hollow Points, preferrably Glock .45 Auto or .40 S&W like the US Pentagon Police Dept. Officers carry. He would not have survived with HPs in his chest!

I am so sorry for your loss, words can not explain the depth of sorrow that feel. I know that mine must serve as such a dissapointment.

Hey I'm a big fan of keeping a watchful eye especially being on midnights. But has anyone seen Aeon Flux or Equillibrium?? Didn't they have a blimp hovering around? I know privacy doesn't count outside but a blimp hovering around my house could cause me to be concerned even being a law enforcement professional.

Suicide is way to common in this occupation. I have always felt that departments do not do enough to prevent this sort of scenario. Now you have two or more shattered lives.

Instead of crying about low pay and collective bargaining how about we get the Unions and Congress to work on mental health support and benefits for the familys of officers who have taken their own lives due to duty related depression and stress. I'll take one life saved over a pay raise any day.

Sergeant Alley I'm sure there is a large group of victim familys and co-workers that will grealty miss you. RIP.

Ft. Hood massacre
Sgt Munley's actions were certainly heroic.

What about her partner?

What is his or her name?

I heard a rumor that he actually took down the attacker before he was able to finish off Sgt Munley. You know how rumors get started. We don't really know what the TWO DoD police officers really did yet.

As a fellow officer ,I personally know Jimmy. Worked out of his command a few years ago while employed by another agency . He seemed to be a genuine, good person who would always go out of his way to help. A tragic accident. Could only imagine what he is going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you brother.

Women Cops
Women cops are a joke. On Cops and other video-type shows such as on TRU TV, the female cops are always tossed around and it always takes a man to show up and take care of business. What a waste of taxpayer's money.

A civilian police officer
There are no civilian police officers, she is sworn to protect to citizens in her jurisdiction and she did just that. Great Job and I hear she wants to move to Ft. Bragg. If that is the case finding a job here should not be difficult here.

The real trick to law enforcement is to treat everyone the way you want to be treated, while being prepared to instantly remove them from the earth. "Have a smile and a kind word for everyone you meet. And a plan to kill them."

This may complicate things. MP's/MA's/SF all receive a great deal of training, however, that training tends to be accumulated over many years of service. An 18 year old MP fresh out of his/her service school would be much more likely to go out and get involved in some irresponsible incident off base than an experienced 25 year old MP. Isn't this also the case with just about any civilian police officer fresh out of the academy? Perhaps there should be an age requirement added to this bill, since most civilian departments require officers to be 21.

Who would it hurt really? If something goes wrong on a traffic stop in the middle of nowhere, would you rather an off duty MP be apprehensive to help in a situation, or would you rather they be armed and have your back without fear of legal issues?

Also, to include DOA, DON, etc. police in this act and not include MP's would be an absolute joke. MP's of all branches tend to face just as much (if not more in some cases) danger on the job as DOD cops.

$15,000 bond! Wonderful! This maggot had plenty of chances to stop ... or not drive in the first place. It is only a misdemeanor to assault an officer ... but a judge ... (in another state) gives a man active time in jail for flipping him the bird. I think this whole justice system flips officers and victims the bird every time someone is arrested or prosecuted in court and given - NOTHING. It is a shame that unless something happens to a "big person" - the offenders get nothing. I feel that I have enough experience dealing with this system for 20+ years that I know what I am saying. But- Yes, I am still proud to be an American and to be a Police Officer in America!
