Enhanced Electronic Stake Out

Jan. 14, 2015

Police departments across the country are faced with shrinking budgets and having to do more work with less staff. In some cases, technology can help them to be more efficient by freeing them up from certain duties. For instance, while the traditional stakeout can be very effective in catching criminals, it is also very time-consuming. The Electronic Stake Out® product from 3SI Security Systems provides a GPS tracking device that can be used to target and track criminals. Using this device frees up police time as they don't get involved with the stake out until the device alerts them that an incident has occurred. More than 5,000 police departments across the world have been trained in our technology and are benefitting from it, with apprehension in 70% of cases and an asset return rate of over 87%.

We are pleased to announce the release of an enhanced ESO product, the NextGen3 Electronic Stakeout® (ESO®). This innovative system's global platform leverages multiple security and tracking technologies and offers new benefits including:

  • Multiple vessel options to allow a variety of bait operations;
  • Configurable motion sensitivity, update rates, and interval reporting;
  • Geo-fences can be customized and multiple devices can be linked;
  • Stores location data if cellular signal is lost during tracking;
  • Hibernation and wake up can be scheduled to save battery power.

Lieutenant Travis Martinez, the Special Operations Bureau Lieutenant of the Redlands Police Department, has used ESO technology for almost four years. "Law enforcement agencies continue to seek ways to do more with less. Using GPS tracking devices to address crime trends works as a force multiplier because our officers do not have to spend time waiting at a single stakeout. With very little effort, one officer can set up multiple electronic stakeouts within a few minutes. We can then perform "regular" police work and not waste time conducting surveillance. As soon as the "bait" item is stolen, officers and dispatch will be alerted allowing us to quickly apprehend the suspect(s)" said Martinez.

"But more than that," he continued, "using GPS devices has enhanced community policing and police legitimacy in our Department. We now have an affordable and very effective strategy to address crime in our community.   When a crime trend pops up, we partner with victims to address their issue. In the past, our options were very limited as to how we could try and solve community members' problems. In under four years using the GPS technology provided by 3SI Security Systems, the Redlands Police Department has made 143 arrests for such crimes as armed robbery, vehicle burglary, laptop theft, UPS parcel theft, cemetery theft, residential burglary, bike theft, construction site theft, and metal theft. In addition, the devices can be used to track parcels, cargo, and narcotics. We even used the device to apprehend two subjects that were placing credit card skimmers on gas pumps. As illustrated by several letters of appreciation, the citizens and business owners of Redlands appreciate our willingness to go above and beyond to apprehend those that are driving up crime rates in our community."

The NextGen3 ESO devices are available in a variety of sizes and in multiple vessel designs, and they can be purchased online.
