Progeny ResQ Handheld Analyzer

June 13, 2014
Progeny ResQ from Rigaku Raman Technologies is a handheld analyzer that uses proven Raman spectroscopy technology to test a wide range of unknown drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, quinine, MDMA, and MDPV.

June 2017 Updates to the Progeny ResQ Raman analyzer include:

  • Expanded library that includes latest fentanyl strands
  • Ability to pair a smartphone to view live field analysis
  • Customized setting applications specific to analysis conditions
  • Identification of lower concentrations using a SERS signal enhancement kit

The success of the fight against the illegal sale or use of narcotics is reliant on the ability of law enforcement professionals to perform rapid identification to provide actionable intelligence when and where it is needed.

Progeny ResQ from Rigaku Raman Technologies is a handheld analyzer that uses proven Raman spectroscopy technology to test a wide range of unknown drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, quinine, MDMA, and MDPV.   Designed to provide users with immediate identification at the scene, Progeny ResQ enables faster and more reliable detection.

During the discovery of a possible methamphetamine lab or the encounter of unlawful drug trafficking, a prompt response is essential. The ability to quickly identify drugs and other unknown chemical substances immediately, rather than having to send samples to a laboratory for analysis, means that informed decisions can be made quicker and benefits the investigation process. Progeny ResQ detects and identifies substances within seconds at the touch of a button providing credible, easy to interpret data.

Existing handheld Raman devices are limited in their ability to identify colored materials or substances found in containers due to interference caused by fluorescence. This affects the number of compounds the analyzer can identify. Progeny ResQ has a unique 1064nm laser which minimizes fluorescence and allows more real world substances to be measured using handheld Raman for the first time.  Colored materials or substances found in containers can now be analyzed through glass or plastic packaging. Users also benefit from a customizable library that can be updated to include the latest drug formulations. By increasing the range of chemicals that can be detected using just one device, Progeny ResQ is designed to support efforts that remove these controlled substances from circulation.

With limited budgets and time to invest in new technology and training, this new generation in narcotics identification technology provides the ability to easily integrate into existing ConOps and requires limited additional training. With some existing handheld chemical detection technology the interpretation of data still represents a challenge for many users which results in frustrating delays in response. Progeny ResQ has been carefully engineered to address these requirements by implementing an intuitive user interface, a bright display for readability in daylight and field ruggedness backed by MIL-STD-810 testing.

When critical decisions are at stake, there is no margin for error and means that unreliable field testing kits are not an option. The confidence provided by Progeny ResQ reveals even subtle differences between similar materials.
