Biometric Asset Tracking System

July 24, 2009

Ancom expands its line of secure law enforcement storage solutions with LEID Products’ Biometric Access Control Systems (BACS). The all-electronic system combines finger print identity (biometrics) with radio frequency ID (RFID) tags, effectively eliminating the need for paper logs. The system is comprised of three major parts: an ID Station, one or more SmartRail Gun Racks and/or one or more Electronic Modular Access Units (EMAU). The ID Station is a freestanding kiosk that identifies users via fingerprints and tracks assets using RFID or barcode scanning. An officer places his/her finger on the reader, and the kiosk touch screen monitor displays a list of all equipment available to that particular officer on that shift. The officer selects the equipment and the biometric reader unlocks the proper weapon in the SmartRail Gun Rack or locker in the EMAU. The ID Station tracks usage and can assist with maintenance scheduling and generate historical usage reports. The system provides full accountability; secure lock-up and controlled maintenance for departmental assets. Use of BACS facilitates loss prevention, and reduction of human error.
