iRobot Corporation recently released the Negotiator: a cost-effective, lightweight and compact robot that performs basic reconnaissance for public safety professionals, increasing situational awareness and keeping officers out of potentially dangerous events, such as domestic disturbances and hostage situations. Negotiator's key capabilities include the ability to evaluate danger zones and inaccessible areas with real-time video using high-resolution color cameras, two-way radio communication and an integrated joystick - significantly reducing training time. Conveniently designed to fit into the trunk of any vehicle, the bot can evaluate dangerous situations from the hands of an operator, at a safe distance.
