Smith & Wesson offers a compact model of its .45 ACP M&P pistol, which was designed as a primary backup for law enforcement and military personnel or as an off-duty sidearm, the M&P45 Compact reinforces Smith & Wesson's reputation for manufacturing innovative, durable and reliable firearms. Built on a durable polymer-frame reinforced with a rigid stainless steel chassis, the M&P45c benefits from enhanced shootability along with a reduction in felt recoil. Offered with a traditional black frame, or in a bi-tone, dark earth brown frame, the M&P45c is offered with or without a frame-mounted thumb safety. Unlike other competitive firearms, the frame-mounted thumb safety on the M&P45c acts as a passive safety device allowing the slide to be pulled toward the rear, clearing the firearm without disengaging the safety. The compact pistol features an easily concealable 4-inch barrel and measures 7.125 inches in overall length. Featuring one of the smallest grip sizes of any .45 ACP pistol, the M&P45 Compact benefits from the addition of three interchangeable grips, allowing the user to customize the grip to his or her hand size in seconds. Other standard features on the M&P45c include a universal Picatinny-style equipment rail for tactical lights and lasers, stainless-steel barrel and slide with a thru-hardened black Melonite finished for added durability, a passive trigger safety.
