Orchid Cellmark introduces Biotracks:DNA, a service that utilizes DNA evidence to assist in the investigation and prosecution of property crimes. Biotracks:DNA has been designed as a three-way partnership between a public crime lab, a local law enforcement agency and Orchid Cellmark. It involves the analysis of evidence collected at the crime scene followed by a DNA comparison to an off-line database of convicted offender profiles. If the evidentiary DNA profile matches one in the database, you have a "hit." "Hits" can help focus the investigation and lead to higher case closure rates. Given the high recidivism rate in property crimes, it also can prevent future crimes.
