GE's Security announced Instrument Business Outlook (IBO) recognized its StreetLab portable explosive/narcotics detector in the 12th annual 2005 IBO Design Awards. StreetLab won the bronze medal in the competition's Portable Analytical Instrument Industrial Design category. Winners of the IBO awards exemplify how innovative industrial design can make a product aesthetically appealing and enhance the user's experience. StreetLab detects traces of explosives and drugs in seconds with an easy-to-use touchscreen interface design. This system is designed for use on the bench and on the beatt with law enforcement, customs and border personnel, forensics labs and military personnel employing the portable substance identification system. The device weighs 7 pounds and can accurately identify liquids, powders and solids in a single step. Featuring laser-based Raman technology, the StreetLab requires no chemicals to mix or dispose, helping make it safe, fast and economical. Battery-operated, the StreetLab comes with an extensive and readily expanded substance library for greater versatility.
