GeneXpert Anthrax tests combine sample preparation with real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) amplification and detection for fully automated DNA analysis. The system purifies, concentrates, detects and identifies targeted nucleic acid sequences, delivering answers from unprocessed samples in minutes versus days. Up to four different targets and/or controls can be measured and distinguished simultaneously. Cephid's anthrax test detects two key virulence genes, an internal control and a separate sample prep control. This on-site test can detect as few as 30 spores in a sample.
