BMW X5 4.4i Security

Aug. 20, 2007
Indistinguishable from its standard road car counterpart, the BMW X5 Security provides protection from firearms attack, robbery, kidnap and car jacking. Conforming to the independent weapons standard B4, the reinforced glass on the X5 Security can stop a round fired from a .44 Magnum. The glazing is approximately 20mm thick and coated in polycarbonate, providing splinter protection for the passenger cell. The door shuts, cable ducts and door joins in the B pillar are reinforced to ensure no munitions can penetrate, and the entire reinforced passenger cell is supplemented by sections of ballistic-resistant steel. Run-flat tires allow safe travel of up to 30 miles at speeds of 50 mph, even when punctured or deflated. The X5 Security also features an intercom allowing occupants to communicate with those outside the vehicle without opening a door or window, and an assault alarm that can be activated in the event of a hostile reception.
