Cutting-edge License Plate Recognition software nabs offender for central Minnesota resort town on only second day of use

OLDSMAR, Fla., August 19, 2015—The Breezy Point, Minnesota Police Department has joined the ever-growing roster of Law Enforcement agencies using the popular PlateSmart Mobile License Plate Recognition (LPR or ALPR) software-only solution for law and traffic enforcement. The Breezy Point Police Department, which deployed PlateSmart’s solutions just recently, is reporting stellar results, including the warrant arrest of a criminal offender on only the second day of use for the software.

PlateSmart Mobile continues to grow in popularity among law enforcement as more agencies discover the software’s incomparable performance and affordable cost. Among PlateSmart Mobile’s attractive key features is the ability to interface in real time with federal (such as the National Crime Information Center), state, and local “be on the lookout” (BOLO) hotlists, ensuring that users always have the most up-to-date information on wanted and missing persons. Also included is a built-in Data Retention Policy, which automatically deletes ALPR capture data after a period of time specified by the user. Additionally, the next version of the software will include a comprehensive audit trail feature set with automatic redaction technology. This will provide a complete record of all information requests and ensure that no unauthorized persons have access to sensitive data. It will also scrub any irrelevant personal data from the output of those requests. All of these features will be available at the most cost-effective price point in the industry.

Breezy Point has been a popular resort destination since the 1920’s, when the area regularly played host to some of Hollywood’s biggest stars of the day. Although its permanent population is modest in size at approximately 2,394, to this day the town continues to attract tourists from all over the world and boasts a prosperous standard of living for its residents. The high seasonal influx, which can cause the town’s population to double during certain months of the year, was one of the main reasons city police were anxious to get PlateSmart’s industry-leading ALPR technology on its streets. Police were vindicated when the system returned three significant hits in the first two days of deployment, one of which resulted in the aforementioned warrant arrest on the second day.

Breezy Point Police Chief Kevin Merschman said, “As a small department with limited resources, we are always looking for ways to leverage technology to maximize our effectiveness.  The PlateSmart Mobile License Plate system was the most cost-effective solution of its kind, and I am sure it will prove to be an invaluable tool.  The system has already yielded spectacular results.”

Helping smaller municipalities and companies adopt flexible, robust, cost-effective ALPR technology is one of PlateSmart’s founding principles, according to company founder and CEO John Chigos.  “Our software is absolutely made for towns like Breezy Point,” he says. “We knew from the beginning that for ALPR to have its maximum impact, it had to be everywhere—in smaller towns as well as big cities. We created PlateSmart Mobile to be the most flexible and most affordable ALPR solution for any security agency or private entity, large, small, or in-between. It’s worth all the effort my team and I have put in to know that we are helping the Breezy Point Police keep their streets safe, because it’s always been a significant part of our mission to save lives and provide enhanced force protection in smaller municipalities.”
