LOS ANGELES and ORLANDO, Fla., March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Helinet Technologies, an international provider of aviation technology solutions to the law enforcement, government and military markets, announced today its selection by the Swedish National Police (SNP) to deploy a comprehensive, country-wide airborne law enforcement solution.  This will include a customized mission suite for the agency's seven, newly acquired Bell 429 helicopters as well as the build-out of a nationwide network of ground-based microwave receive sites.  The new system will support policing, counterterrorism and public safety operations, providing real-time aerial intelligence from SNP aircraft, operating anywhere in Sweden, to officers on the ground.

Developed to meet the specific needs of the SNP, the mission suite incorporates state of the art image capture, broadcast and receive technologies and will provide uninterrupted, interference-free streaming of HD video and data across the entirety of Sweden.  Air crews will be able to deliver real-time video via encrypted microwave downlink to command centers and to portable handheld receivers utilized by officers in the field.  SNP operators will also be able to instantly overlay critical information such as addresses, points of interest and other data on top of the live video and transmit this information in real-time.

In addition to transmission through the microwave downlink, an encrypted Internet protocol capability will allow the SNP to deliver live streaming video and data anywhere in the world via WiFi, cellular data and satellite networks. Each helicopter will be equipped with both forward and aft cabin mission stations, allowing the system to be controlled from anywhere in the aircraft.

"This new solution will play a critical role in our crime prevention and public safety efforts throughout Sweden," said Bengt Grönlund, head of unit for the Swedish Police National Air Support Unit.  Most importantly, Helinet is able to provide us with a complete, end-to-end package backed by an unparalleled support and training infrastructure to ensure we are using the solution at the highest level."

Today's deal builds upon Helinet's strong relationship with Bell Helicopter and its experience working with the Bell 429, most recently in developing an airborne system for the New York Police Department's (NYPD) fleet of 429s. Helinet will work closely with partners FLIR, Churchill Navigation, Troll Systems and Thommen in deploying the new solution, which utilizes commercial-off-the-shelf products in a custom configuration optimized to support the SNP's mission profile.  The project extends the Helinet Technologies footprint into Europe, building upon the company's success with U.S. clients including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD).

"Having a robust airborne capability is a crucial element in running strong and effective law enforcement and counterterrorism operations," said Ron Magocsi, chief operating officer for Helinet Technologies.  "We are pleased to join Bell Helicopter in partnering with the SNP and look forward to delivering a world-class solution that supports the country of Sweden's overall public safety efforts."
