LEID Products to Showcase BACS™ Asset and Evidence Management Systems at the 2014 IACP Conference

Oct. 23, 2014
On the heels of widespread missing weapons reports in the news, secure and accountable firearm storage will be front and center for law enforcement agencies attending the 2014 IACP Conference.

Auburn Hills, MI & Orlando, FL (PRWEB) October 22, 2014 - LEID Products, LLC., the leader of electronic locker and cabinet storage with biometric asset protection and control, today announced it will send a team of experts to the 121st Annual IACP Conference and Exposition. The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) trade show is taking place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL October 25-28, 2014. LEID Products booth #1244 will be centrally located in the Homeland Security section of the expo floor.

LEID Products will be among more than 750 companies exhibiting at this premier event for law enforcement which provides thousands of dedicated professionals from across the country and around the globe with a unique opportunity for learning, collaborating and experiencing new technology. LEID’s hands-on exhibit, will offer live demonstrations of its BACS™ Systems - intelligent biometric access control systems used to secure and track critical inventory including weapons, critical equipment, keys and evidence. With a track record spanning over 8 years of field use, the BACS™ Systems are trusted by US government and law enforcement agencies across the U.S. and abroad. LEID’s patented biometrically accessed BACS™ Systems offer self-service pick-up/drop-off of items identified via RFID or Barcode with 24/7 monitoring and control through remote, web-based asset/evidence management software. Electronic chain of custody reports provide for full accountability of all items stored in BACS Asset and Evidence Management Systems as well.

Recent events in the news have spurred an uptick in law enforcement agencies interested in improving inventory control of sensitive and critical equipment. The police shooting of an unarmed black man in Ferguson, Missouri, followed by the ensuing protests, and the local police officials’ response to control these protest using military-issued equipment, has sparked a national debate over the Pentagon's controversial “1033 program.” The program equips local and state police departments with military surplus weaponry.

With the media digging into the 1033 program, the public learned of 145 law enforcement agencies the Pentagon banned from receiving surplus military weapons and supplies after losing high-powered weapons - M14’s, M16’s and assault rifles. If a weapon goes missing and ends up being used by a criminal, the civil liability of a lost item can be devastating. Beyond monetary cost, the reputation of the police department suffers indefinitely.

“While many law enforcement agencies have avoided unwanted publicity, they have had incidents where weapons have been lost, misplaced or stolen,” commented Sam Hoff, president of LEID Products. “BACS gives you confidence in your asset tracking, limiting the potential liability of missing weapons by replacing long-standing paper log methods with secure automated storage and detailed electronic tracking reports.”

The BACS Asset Management System to be displayed will consist of the BACS ID Station Kiosk interfaced to the electronic SmartRail Gun Rack, Electronic Modular Access Units, and BACS Key Cabinet. The BACS Evidence Management System display will consist of the BACS Evidence ID Station Kiosk interfaced to Electronic Evidence Lockers.
