NEW HAVEN, Conn. --

Three New Haven police officers were injured in two crashes while pursuing a shooting suspect Sunday night.

Police said officers attempted to stop a car driven by Paul Colon, who was believed to be involved in a shooting that occurred at Stage Door Johnnie'.

Police said Colon drove the car directly into the path of Officer Jason Jackson’s marked vehicle. Colon' Honda and Jackson’s cruiser collided at the intersection of Lamberton and Arthur streets. After the collision, police said Colon fled, with other officers following him. Jackson was taken to an area hospital.

During the pursuit, two cruisers collided at the intersection of George and Greenwood streets, police said. Both officers involved in that crash, identified as Sgt. J. Koenig and Officer M. Bhagtana, were taken to an area hospital.

At the intersection of George and Greenwood streets, Colon fled his car and was taken into police custody, police said. Police said Colon had a handgun and that heroin and marijuana were found nearby. Colon was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with complaints of shoulder pain.

Both Koenig and Jackson were treated and released from the hospital, while Bhagtana was still being treated for mouth and neck injuries at Yale New Haven Hospital on Monday.

Colon was expected to face a judge on Monday.
