Texas City Uses Squad Cars for Food Drive

HOUSTON --

The Missouri City Police Department used some of its squad cars for something besides transporting criminals Friday. The vehicles were used for a food drive, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The goal of "Stuff the Squad Car" was to collect as much food as possible to help feed the hungry in Missouri City this holiday season.

Police hoped to stuff at least five squad cars full of food.

"Anything that they could eat that could probably be stored for about six months. We like to give families three or four months' worth of food, if we could," said Sonny McClamrock with the Missouri City Police Department.

Despite the rainy weather, residents helped them reach their goal.

"We personally serve 400 families every Thursday at Bethel Ministry and it's a big need -- people needing groceries in this area," said Becky Torres with Bethel Ministries.

Barrels will be placed in the lobby of the Missouri City Police Department, located at 3849 Cartwright Road, so people can donate after the squad car drive ended at noon.
