--

Nov. 5--A deputy with the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office was slightly injured in a Monday night two-vehicle crash in Rockwall.

Sheriff's Lt. David Davis said Deputy Dennis Hoffman was working traffic enforcement along State Highway 276 near Rochelle Road.

"That is right at the city limits sign," Davis said. "He was parked on the north shoulder of Highway 276 and was facing west on the north shoulder."

Davis said a pickup truck collided with Hoffman's patrol vehicle, knocking it 80 feet into a ditch on the opposite side of the highway.

Hoffman complained of headaches, a stiff neck and nausea following the accident and was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, where he was treated and released.

"He's doing good," Davis said.

The driver of the pickup declined treatment at the scene and apparently was uninjured.

"He indicated to the officers that he dozed off," Davis said, adding there was no evidence the driver was using drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
