BOSTON --

A New Bedford man was shot and killed by Massachusetts State Police after he allegedly shot a state trooper who was executing a search warrant, according to police.

Police went to 21 Shawmut Ave. at about 6 a.m. to execute a warrant to search for alleged illegal narcotics inside that residence.

Troopers knocked on the exterior door of the two-family home and verbally announced their presence, that they were police officers, and that they had a warrant. They then moved through that door and approached an interior door that led to the first floor apartment that was the subject of the warrant.

As the troopers approached the second door, multiple gunshots were fired through the wall next to the door at the troopers, police said. One member of the entry team was struck in the torso by one of the shots fired from within the apartment, police said. Troopers discharged their weapons, and a man suffered fatal injuries, police said.

"There were 12 gunshots in a row," one witness said.

"We have a situation where during the midst of the shooting, a woman and child were in the home," Bristol County District Attorney Samuel Sutter said.

The trooper who was shot was wearing protective body armor, which absorbed the impact of the bullet. Because of his protective armor, the trooper suffered no immediately apparent injuries.

"The vest he had on was type they wear when they are doing entries," Massachusetts State Police Department Lt Steven O'Reilly said.

The victim was not identified.

"He was a good guy," said a friend of the victim. "He was a family guy, and to see this, this is a tragedy."

I hope that when they mention the "victim" has not been identified, thay are referring to the trooper. Because the "victim" is the trooper, the victim of an attempted capital murder. The shooter was not a "good guy", good guys don't shoot at cops.

Wow, that story sure leaves a lot to the imagimation. Who did the troopers shoot? Did they make entry into the apartment, identify a suspect and then fireor did they return fire through the wall?

Can't really say much with that half a$$ kind of reporting job :(

Better training should be looked at. This is not the first incident when officers are getting shot (while staging for entry) through the wall before going in. Any suggestions, like maybe a a metal plate with handles that can be placed /leaning on the wall at staging

"He's a good guy, a family guy." Ummmmm well no, see he's really a scum bag coward f'n turd who was a waste of life, and his family should change their names. The cop who wasn't a scumbag coward should sue the cowards family. We all know the cowards family is going to sue.

How about we hold cowards accountable. If that was my brother, I'd make a nice public statement about what how the best part of him dribbled out and left a brown stain on the sheet.

He's not a victim, he's a coward. He's a dead coward, which is the best kind.

The U.S. Supreme Court got it right when they sided with law enforcement several years ago giving us the ok for no-knock warrants in a 5-4 decision. Too bad they didn't have the 4 clowns on scene to see why the other five justices ruled they way they did.

I'm glad the trooper wasn't seriously hurt and we have one less scumbag breathing our precious oxygen.

Who wrote this article? The guy is not a "victim" he is a suspect. The subject of a search warrant. Therefore, he is suspected of some criminal act.

"He was a good guy," said a friend of the victim. "He was a family guy, and to see this, this is a tragedy."

Why don't they ever tell the truth: "He was a scumbag, he shot at the police and he got what he deserved."

We had a police shooting one time and of course the news media located a friend of the victim, who was singing his praises and condemning the police. One of our officers decided to run the individual's name and lord behold there was an Outstanding Warrant. The friend was abruptly apprehended.

Scumbag killed after he shots Trooper....
These articles make me and every decent American sick. We have all these a_sh_le drug dealers, gangers and bangers that don't hesitating to kill our LEO's. Then the reporters and a District Attorney open their mouths and make things worse.

This is how it went down according to the article.
"As the troopers approached the second door, multiple gunshots were fired through the wall next to the door at the troopers, police said."
I believe it is illegal to shot another human being. He deserved what he got. If someone shots at me and I have a gun, I am going to shot back.
This scum didn't care about his woman and kid that were in the house, or he won't be selling narcotic's and shooting at Trooper's. As far the woman goes, I can beat the world on this, she was selling right along with him. You don't live with a drug dealer and not be part of it. The Troopers did a great thing, now maybe the child will be taken and put in a home where it will be raised with some morals and values.

Of course the neighbors are going to say he was a nice guy. He was selling drugs to the whole neighborhood. A criminal is a criminal.

Just like Cleveland's rapist. He use to give barbecues in his driveway. I guess he was checking out which female he wanted to barbecue next. His neighbors said he was always nice also. Ten women later, he his still a nice neighbor, let him be a nice neighbor to the prisoner next to him, until he is put to death. These people are not nice, they are psycho's and nasty people.

I pray every day that God keeps our LEO's safe and help them to make this a better world...I will continue to say this prayer for many more years to come...
It comes from the bottom of my heart when I say, "THANK YOU" to everyone of you in Law Enforcement and all others serving to keep us safe...
May God Bless everyone of you...
