LOUISVILLE, Ky. --

A Louisville man was accused of attempted murder after allegedly dragging a police officer from his car.

Shively police said an officer stopped Byron Blake’s vehicle at Seventh Street Road and Arcade Avenue on Sunday morning.

The officer said 34-year-old Blake refused to get out of the car.

The officer reached into the vehicle to remove the keys. Officer Emery Frye said that's when Blake took off.

The officer was dragged for at least 10 feet before he fell to the ground.

Blake was arrested a mile down the road. A second officer was injured in the struggle to arrest Blake.

Both officers were treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries.

I'm glad the officers are going to be ok, but how many more LEO's are going to be hurt by doing this.

Reaching into a car
We have taught our officers that reaching into a vehicle is normally a very poor tactical choice and should be avoided except in an extreme emergency. This is the very reason we teach this.
