If he had called two male officers overtime whores, this wouldn't be an issue.

Boo freaken hoo........we have overtime whores in our department, and that's what their called. I know good ol boy stuff goes on in different areas of the country, and in different departments....but you know what, you better have thick skin if you want to work in this profession.

I bet these women were doubling their salaries. Get a life, and if you can't handle the fire get out the kitchen.

"Chief Elliot encountered her at the rally and reportedly asked: "Whatever happened to you and Jill, you used to be overtime whores, now you just want to be wives and mothers?"

I understand that as a police officer we have to have tuff skin but we get enough BS from people off the streets!
Its different if you call male officers a whores because males are not associated with the word whore but women for decades are. I dont see any problem with this law suit! As a chief he expects respect from his officers, but he has to give respect back to receive. There is a time to joke and a time to be serious.

Agreed. think skin or not, you can't call your female employees "whores". And coming from the chief? Wow.

They will get paid and they deserve it.

The 'overtime whore' is basically and mostly sensationalization in the headlines and is less what the case appears to be about.

Funny, though, how most people who respond to stories around here are quick to judge the officers involved as bad guys, whiners or just bad people without knowing all the facts. The women were apparently being discriminated against because of their objection to being called something they found insulting.

Yet the majority of comments are "you have to have a thick skin to work in this profession"? As if by becoming a police officer it means you have to put up with every last bit of insult hurled your way, especially if it comes from your own department?

It's the majority of commenters on this board that prove why people don't like cops and shouldn't like cops. Backstabbing self righteous rat bastards quick to judge and dismiss other officers without even the semblance of objective, fair or impartiality on their part. A little blurb says something they don't like and suddenly the officer is the ruination of police officers for everyone else involved.

Lots of rat bastards around these parts

"Overtime Whore" is a name used to call everyone that spends more time worried about overtime than worried about their regular duties. It is not a sexist insult. The people that posted here that are actully cops know that.

So one day she complains that she had to work overtime when the department needs it, then complains because she is denied overtime when she needs it. What a farce.

Rabe I tried to see it from your point of view, but I couldn't get my head that far up my @$$..

Overtime Whore is a term used in most departments towards someone who works a lot of overtime. It has never been used as an insult. Now the Chief has apologized and was suspended. Yet the Officers still file a lawsuit.A hostile work enviroment? Panic attacks? problems breathing? Maybe its time to retire Officers. If your having panic attacks after someone calls you a name what are you going to do when you get into a real conflict? I admire the Chief for saying he was sorry and taking his punishment. Looks like the Officers are trying to cash-in without working the overtime. Maybe we will come up for a term for these type of Officers in the future.

Poor judgement
I have to agree, I think the suit has some merit. Like it or not, "whore" has a much stronger connotation when said to a woman than it does to a man. A chief should should show far more professionalism than that!
