I'll be damned if I am going to be driving a Ford Taurus in lieu of the Vic. I really hope Ford has plans for something a little better then that option. We mightest well throw in the towels if that is our only option.

ehhh
While the crown vics put up with a ton of the abuse we do to them they are old. The body hasn't changed in what, 11 or so years? the engines are underpowered. 264 HP doesn't cut it anymore. The transmissions overheat too quickly. And the suspension could be updated some. But it is most definitely durable. I don't like the light, front wheel drive Impalas. Too little weight, too much wheelspin. RWD is fantastic, and I hope whatever they replace it with is fuel efficient, roomy and nimble. Ultimately I hope that Carbon Motors is able to follow through with their desire to produce cruisers at approximately the same price as current outfitted ones. carbonmotors.com if anyone hasn't looked yet.

@ JM MPDC. That is actually a pretty nifty looking car. They thought about everything, including the seats to comfortably fit your radio and gun. I like the 380 degree lights, and all inside the cruiser.

Are departments taking this car in account? I haven't heard anything about this car until now.

I'm right up the road from you with MCP, and I know ours went back to Impalas with this group of cars, and they refuse to get new chargers because of all the problems we've had with them. All I know is that there better be a 8 cyl option when the vic goes 10-7

Too bad Ford is letting us down. My agency recently went to an all Impala fleet because our city council believes that they will save money on gas. They don't think about repair costs. The Impalas are weak and can't take the hard driving that is required when performing this job. Chevrolet should be embarassed. I have never heard anyone say they think the Impala makes a suitable police cruiser. I have my doubts when the "penny pinchers" say they cant afford to buy Ford or Dodge vehicles. I highly doubt that the Impala is the cheapest vehicle to purchase out there. I'd love to see the repair orders on the Impala, but 'hey' I guess it's worth the few bucks saved in gas. What a joke....

Not to worry boys. The Dodge charger is already an option and, from what I understand, the Chevrolet Caprice will be raised from the dead (a rebadged Pontiac G8). No guarantees, but would be great if it did happen.

Demise of the Crown Vic
The Carbon Motors police vehicle would be a great fit for any police agency, small or large. But, with anything in life, 'If it seems to good to be true, it probubly is'... I haven't heard anything about anyone ever having driven the Carbon Motors vehicle and/or how it handles, etc.. I don't know anything but what I have read about the Carbon Motors, however; my guess is if an agency was to have a maintenance issue with their Carbon, it would have to be sent back east to the factory for service. Not a cost effective choice for any agency unless your jurisdiction is the same as the factory. Seems the Dodge Chrager may be the next police vehicle.

The Carbon Motors car is a pipe dream. I heard the next big name police vehicle is going to be redesigned Yugo. Enjoy!

BTW, the Grand Marquis is going bye-bye, too.

The Charger is a pretty good car, but its small. I am 6-04 and have a hard time seeing out the front window of the Charger because the headliner hangs so low.

Also, Chrysler might be out of business by 2011.... leaving Government Motors and their dinky little Impala as the only current option...

I thought the Crown Vic had 285 horses. The Grand Marquis is more like the Crown Victoria LX; built more for luxuary and not speed. If I'm correct, the Grand Marquis, along with the CV LX has only 120mph on the dash /w the governor chip, as opposed to the Police Interceptor's 140mph. Ford should really reconsider stopping production of the vehicle. Personally, this is the best, and most reliable car (in my opinion) that Ford Motor Co. makes. Too bad they don't make the Mercury Marauder anymore. Now that was a car. The Florida Highway Patrol bought a fleet of them. Don't know if they still have them, though.
