CADIZ, Ohio --

A standoff situation ended peacefully Friday after police surrounded a trailer in Cadiz.

Officers with weapons drawn surrounded the trailer on Deersville Avenue after John O'Neil barricaded himself inside and refused to come out.

According to his father, O'Neil went out to buy a pack of cigarettes and officers attempted to pull him over. O'Neil, who does not have a license, allegedly fled the scene and barricaded himself in his home.

While inside the home, police heard a loud bang which they presumed to be a gun shot.

But, after further investigation, police said the noise was actually from a firecracker.

"He could have got killed from a pack of cigarettes," said James O'Neil, the suspect's father.

James O'Neil said police did "everything humanly possible to bring him out alive, thank God."

The suspect, John O'Neil, eventually gave up without incident and there were no reported injuries. Police said he is expected to be turned over to the Harrison County sheriff.
