This unfortunately is a sign of the times. Good news for the criminals in that area. Bad news for the citizens. I thought I had a recession proof job, I was wrong.

This makes me really mad for sure seeing that I planned to go to Akron Academy next year. This is making me rethink living in the Akron area as a whole.
I feel bad for the armed security guards that work in the Akron area, they will now have even more to look foward to. More Officers looking for jobs with their company/or more criminals looking to do more crimes.

how about they "lay off" people on public support i.e. welfare, benefit cards, etc... before they start disbanding the fd and pd

"Laid Off"
I really want to be a Police Officer here in Ohio, mostly in Huber Heights or Dayton, but I'm re-thinking to looking for a job now as either a Prison Guard or A Police Officer here in Beavercreek.???? My sympothies to the people who lost their jobs.

Be Prepared, Akron
By laying off 10 percent of their fire department and over 20 percent of their police department, the city of Akron's leaders are cutting their own throats without knowing it. Insurance underwriters factor in the size of fire department when writing fire insurance policies - so the citizenry of Akron will end up paying MUCH MUCH more than the salaries of those firefighters would have been. And when crime rates soar, the cost of insurance against theft, vandalism, etc will also climb. Not to mention the human misery when people DIE in fires, homicides, drunk driving accidents, etc. And let's factor in the pain from child molestors and abductors running free, rapists being able to avoid capture, auto thieves and burglars going rampant, etc. Guess laying off cops and firemen isn't quite the bargain they believe it is... Hope someone publishes this in an Akron newspaper.

This makes me winder though, how much money was the mayor willing to "bump down" to save an employee. Also how many of the mayors aids and department chairs, were either bumped down or given their two week notice. I dare say very few. Just a couple of thoughts take from it what you will.

I won't say some of the things I wanted to because it would sound too much like someone trying to find positive in a tragic death of a loved one. If you say any more than "I'm sorry", you risk sounding stupid.

So guys and gals of Akron Police, I'm sorry:(

SHAME
It's a real shame. Even after Akron eliminated all of their social welfare, saved on electricity by not illuminating statues and turning off lights at all city buildings at night when they weren't occuppied, cut maintnence at parks and cut cleaning in city buildings to once a week instead of daily, they still weren't able to save these jobs. I mean, I'm assuming that all these measures and others were taken before they considered laying off their employees. Please tell me I'm right.
