Sad but true
Where that incident happened there is a large concentration of homeless. Many of them also have psychiatric issues and go to the mental health mental retardation center one block away. No one knows what was in the head of the subject. To someone with as serious psychiatric issues as some of the subjects there to have rational thought and insight into their actions is out of the question.
One of the Officers involved is usually assigned to that area. The Officers assigned to that area know most of the homeless and psych patients on sight and know their usual behaviors. The Officers that work that area are very skilled at working with the challenging people they face every day. The officers did what they had to do. There wasnt a choice at that point. The Officers did everything they could to defuse the situation. In the end it was clearly deadly force to stop deadly force.
But to the people that some time ago said "Hey lets close the state psychiatric hospitals, these people need the least restrictive environment" causing most of these people to now be on the street and homeless, how restrictive is the casket that man is in now?
