WHY?
First of all, GREAT job by the officer......glad your ok and the scum is dead....perfect outcome.

Second, the article states the Office of Professional Standards is investigating the incident as is common practice with officer involved shootings......I understand this of course, but then the article states the incident is being presented to a grand jury......why is this? I don't quite understand why it's being presented to a grand jury?

I THOUGHT HIGH SPEED PURSUITS WAS DISCOURAGED THEREFORE THE PERP. SHOULD HAVE STOPPED ON POLICE ORDERS........FAT CHANCE.....HAPPY ENDING.....NO BYSTANDERS.....

Mike, as in any other crime that is a felony. The case has to be heard by a grand jury who will then determine rather or not to "true bill" it or "no bill "it. even though it is a justified shooting by departmental policies and state law it has to be heard just like any other case. In most such shootings the prosecuter instructs the grand jury that the states seeks a no bill based on the facts. Bottom line its a formality.

Anytime we are involved in a fatal officer involved shooting, we are charged with murder and taken to the grand jury

The reason that the case goes to the grand jury is because the DA does not have a set of balls. The DA even though he knows that the shooting was justified, he or she will send it to the grand jury because he or she is afraid to make a decision on their own, because a public out cry justified or not could hurt their job security. Remember the DA always decides what cases they prosecute or not.
