ORLANDO, Fla.
--
Police were searching for a suspect who was responsible for a five-hour standoff in an Orlando neighborhood Sunday morning.
Officers and a SWAT team, who was called in, barricaded streets and surrounded a home on Ola Drive and Columbia Street (see map) where 30-year-old Delvin Pryor was believed to be hiding.
Police said Pryor was wanted for an armed home invasion that occurred on January 2 and dozens of other crimes.
One neighbor who wanted to be indentified as Angelica said officers pulled her daughter's boyfriend out of his home at gunpoint before they realized he was the wrong person.
"We got a phone call saying everyone was being evacuated. Her boyfriend was next door and they told him, '1042 come out with your hands up,'" said Angelica. "He's still shaken up and he said his legs are all shaken and everything."
Neighbors tried to go about their daily lives, but had to dodge barricaded streets while leaving church. Even though Pryor got away, police defended the massive operation.
"You've got to be sure your officers are safe and you've got to be sure your public is safe," said Barb Jones of the Orlando Police Department.
Police said they got a tip that Pryor was sleeping in a pregnant woman's apartment. Officers fired tear gas into the home and stormed inside, but the suspect was gone.
Eyewitness News learned that Pryor has a long criminal history including 51 past felony charges. Police cleared the scene just after 2:30 in the afternoon Sunday.
