BOCA RATON, Fla.
--
A state trooper was hospitalized trying to rescue a woman who was trapped inside her car after it plunged into the water Monday morning.
It happened at about 7 a.m. on the southbound side of Florida's Turnpike near the Glades Road exit.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the woman lost control of her car, crossed into oncoming traffic and landed in a nearby pond.
Moments later, a trooper arrived and dove into the water to rescue the woman from the submerged car but became entangled in some underwater foliage.
The trooper was transported to West Boca Medical Center, where he is being treated for unspecified injuries and will remain overnight.
The rescued driver was taken to North Broward Medical Center. Her condition is not known.
