BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
--
A man shot by Bakersfield police officers after a chase Sunday has died.
Officers opened fire on Jose Peyan-Leal, 22, Sunday morning after Peyan-Leal led police on a wild chase through the Bakersfield Airpark, according to the Bakersfield Police department.
BPD said it started out as a car jacking on the 700 block of Geneva Avenue after Peyan-Leal shot at the vehicles owner, Julio Diaz, 35.
Police said Peyan-Leal took off in Diaz's Dodge Durango and led police on a chase through the Bakersfield Airpark.
Police said the truck then rolled several times and landed near Watts Avenue.
Police said when the truck stopped officers broke out the rear window and found Peyan-Leal still sitting inside.
Police said Peyan-Leal got out of the truck and started running away with a gun in his hand.
Police said when he refused to stop, three officers fired several shots striking Peyan-Leal. He later died at Kern Medical Center.
Diaz, whose vehicle was stolen, suffered moderate injuries and is at a local hospital.
The three officers involved in the shooting have been identified as:
Senior Officer T.J. Martinez 7 years of service.
Officer Christopher Yslas 1 ½ years of service.
Officer Allen Ronk 11 months of service.
Police said the officers involved were not hurt.
