Ex-Louisiana Officer Arraigned in Taser Death

"In June, a federal jury in San Jose, Calif., held Taser International partially liable for the death of a man who had a Taser used on him during an arrest. The company was ordered to pay $1 million in compensatory damages and $5.2 million in punitive damages."

That is a misleading statement as the jury found the man to be 85% accountable for his death and Taser 15% accountable. However the courts decision ACTUALLY stated that the use of the Taser was the only means that he could have been safely taken into custoday without further or more grievous injury then what he had already incurred.

You're right; jolting someone nine times is unacceptable. BUT the Taser didn't kill him. You always hear that a Taser used 50,000 volts, and that is a big number so it scares people. Yeah, that's true that a Taser MOMENTARILY uses 50,000, but then jumps down to 12,000. ALSO, volts don't kill you. Amps do. And the Taser uses .026 amps. Way less than lethal. So do your homework.

Might have been different if he was in a house fighting the guy for 10 minutes alone waiting on backup. However, nine times seems unreasonable to me also since the suspect was cuffed. Officer safety first but you cant just go nuts with a taser.l

ok...9 times sounds excessive, but none of us were there either. LEO's who have received the proper taser training know exactly what it can and can't do, so dont judge the officer in trouble too harshly. Leave that to the jury.
