North Carolina Police Officer Struck During Pursuit

A Winston-Salem woman was arrested early Thursday morning after officials say she hit a Lexington police officer and another vehicle while attempting to flee from police.

LEXINGTON, North Carolina -- A Winston-Salem woman was arrested early Thursday morning after officials say she hit a Lexington police officer and another vehicle while attempting to flee from police. A passenger in her car was also charged and arrested on outstanding warrants.

Caylen Amber Faulkner, 23, of Winston-Salem, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony hit and run with injury, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, hit and run leaving the scene with property damage, failure to stop for a stop sign, driving without having a license plate displayed, reckless driving to endanger, failure to stop at a red light and speeding.

According to Faulkner's arrest report, Officer Grant Alexander was attempting to conduct a traffic stop fom speeding on Faulkner's 2006 Chevrolet truck on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The report indicates that Faulkner attempted to flee from police before striking two vehicles, including the left side of the officer's vehicle and causing injury to him.

Capt. Scott Shoaf said Faulkner struck a Department of Social Services vehicle from Forsyth County on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, causing significant damage to her own Chevrolet. She continued to attempt to flee, during which time she struck the officer's patrol car. Shoaf said she then attempted to flee on foot.

Shoaf said the officer's injuries were minor and he was treated and released from Wake Forest Baptist Health - Lexington Medical Center. The damage to the patrol car was also minor, he said.

Faulkner's arrest report said she was driving 80 mph in a 30 mph zone and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North Main Street. Faulkner is also accused of driving recklessly, driving without a license plate displayed, failing to stop at a stop sign and possessing $2,418 worth of stolen property in her vehicle.The items had been stolen from Lowes Home Improvement, according to the arrest report.

Faulkner was also charged with breaking into a motor vehicle in a separate incident that occurred on May 22, according to her arrest report.

A passenger in Faulkner's vehicle, Antoine Devone Mickle, 28, also of Winston-Salem, was also charged with misdemeanor possession of the stolen goods, which included two weedeaters and a generator, as well as the misdemeanor larceny of the weedeaters, according to his arrest report. He too attempted to flee on foot, leading to a misdemeanor resisting a public officer charge. He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia in relation to this incident.

After police apprehended both Faulkner and Mickle, Mickle was also arrested on outstanding warrants for an April 15 police chase he led. Charges related to that chase included fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, failure to stop for a stop sign, failure to heed to lights or sirens, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, driving the wrong way on a dual lane highway, driving with a license revoked, displaying a revoked registration plate, operating a vehicle with no insurance, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Faulkner is being held in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $110,000 secured bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on July 22.

Mickle is being held on a $55,500 combined, secured bond. He is schedule to appear in court on July 22 and Sept. 9.

This is the second traffic accident Alexander has been involved in this year after a drunk driver struck his patrol vehicle last month.

According to Maj. Robby Rummage, at 2:05 a.m. on May 5, Tamra Tutterow, of Lexington, ran the red light at the intersection of North Main Street and Fifth Street, striking the Alexander's vehicle and pushing it into a power pole.

Rummage said Alexander received minor, non-life threatening injuries in this wreck from May and was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center. Tutterow received only minor injuries and was not transported, Rummage said.

Tutterow was charged with driving while intoxicated in that incident.
