CHICKAMUNGA, Georgia -- A Walker County Sheriff's K-9 died after he became uncontrollable and his handler was forced to shoot him Saturday evening.

Deputy Corey Griffin and his K-9 Rocky, a six-year-old Belgian Malinois, were positioned at the rear door of the residence as the suspects were being taken into custody. Sheriff Steve Wilson said that's when Rocky became aggressive and uncontrollable towards Griffin.
The K-9 refused all commands and attacked his handler as he struggled to bring him under control. Griffin sustained serious bite wounds to his left arm after he was unsuccessful in getting the dog to release its bite.
Unable to control the K-9, Griffin drew his service weapon and fired and struck Rocky three times.
Griffin was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released Sunday.
This was the second time that Rocky had attacked Griffin in the four years that they had been partners.
A memorial service is being planned for Rocky the week of July 14.
