MULDROW, Oklahoma -- A Sequoyah County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a Sequoyah County man last Friday while serving an arrest warrant for felony forgery and failure to register as a sex offender.
Phillip Joel Wayne Trammell, 30, allegedly stabbed the deputy before being shot at 507 S. 10th St. in Muldrow, according to Muldrow Police Chief George Lawson. The deputy, whose name has not been released, is recovering from the injuries, he added.
According to Lawson, the deputy was accompanied Friday to the house on 10th Street by Muldrow Police Lt. Brad Roberts and patrolman Jerry Brooks. Muldrow Police Department Assistant Chief Tim Keith transported the deputy to a local hospital for treatment of the stab wounds.
Lawson said the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is still conducting its report on the shooting.
Trammell's bench warrant was issued May 5 for a second-degree forgery offense from February, Lawson said. According to a post at City-Data.com, Trammell was convicted of "rape by instrumentation" in 2007 in Marshall, Texas.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane has not responded for comment on the incident.
