Indiana Police K-9 Hit and Killed by Vehicle

Lebanon Police K-9 Nico was struck and killed by a vehicle after the dog escaped its outdoor kennel.

A Lebanon, Indiana police dog was struck and killed by a vehicle over the weekend.

K-9 Nico, a two-and-a-half-year-old Dutch Shepard, escaped his outdoor kennel while his handler, Officer Tommy Nash, was away at a family function Saturday night, according to WTTV.

Upon discovering that the dog was missing, Nash launched a search. Nico's body was reportedly located near a roadway.

Nico was trained as a dual-purpose narcotics K-9 and served the department for almost two years.

The dog's remains were cremated and the police department is currently working on establishing a memorial for Nico.
