A Louisina deputy was saved by his ballistic vest and his suspected gunman was fatally shot Tuesday.
Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Deputy Kyle Luker was conducting a traffic stop around noon in Simsboro when the shooting occurred, according to The Monroe News Star.
Officials said a white male believed to be from Tennessee became non-compliant and combative before he pulled out a gun and fired on the deputy.
Luker, who was struck in his vest, returned fire on the suspect, killing him.
The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.
The shooting is currently under investigation.
