Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn's comments at a town hall meeting on Monday are stirring some controversy after he called Wisconsin's concealed-carry law "irresponsible."

When posed the question by a resident whether the law has contributed to the city's violence, Flynn said that he believes it does because only convicted felons are barred from permits and that so-called "human holsters" with cleaner records are holding guns for big-time drug dealers, according to WITI-TV.

"It's an irresponsible law passed by irresponsible legislatures who are more interested in ideological points and I'd sure as hell like some more community outrage about that because that's what driving the violence in this city and too many public officials are silent on it," Flynn said during the meeting.

President of the Milwaukee Police Association, Mike Crivello, instantly took issue with Flynn's comments.

"I have never had a conversation with you, chief, relative to you displaying that we are arresting an overwhelming amount of people, or even one person, who's committed a crime while carrying a CCW (permit,)" he said.

Flynn fired back that he is forbidden to tell the public when a CCW permit holder breaks the law by statute.

The meeting was held at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society to discuss violence in Milwaukee and how to bring peace to the city.
