A jury for a second time on Friday was unable unable to reach a verdict in the case of a 2015 fatal shooting involving a University of Cincinnati police officer.

Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Leslie Ghiz declared a mistrial shortly after 2 p.m. in the trial of former Officer Ray Tensing in the shooting of Sam DuBose during a traffic stop, according to The Cincinnati Inquirer.

The jury of nine women and three men was unable to agree on whether Tensing was should be found guilty of either murder or voluntary manslaughter. Jurors deliberated more than 30 hours over five days, asked three questions and ended up almost splitting the votes evenly.

The first trial, held last year, also ended with the jury deadlocked. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters is now tasked with deciding whether to seek a third trial.

On July 19, 2015, Tensing shot and killed DuBose after the unarmed black man attempted to flee a traffic stop. The then 25-year-old officer said he feared for his life after his arm became trapped inside DuBose's vehicle.
