D.C. Bike Patrol Officers Seriously Injured

Police officials say that one officer is in critical but stable condition while the other is in fair condition after they were hit by a speeding pickup truck.

Two Washington, D.C. bike patrol officers were struck by a white pickup truck Thursday night.

Officials say that one officer is in critical but stable condition while the other is in fair condition following the incident that occurred in the 2400 block of 18th Street NW in the Adams Morgan neighborhood around 9 p.m., according to WUSA-TV.

A D.C. Department Of Transportation worker was also hit and injured in the crash.

Police say the officers and a traffic control aid were hit at a high-rate of speed by the the truck in the middle of a busy street.

The driver of the truck, who kept driving, was taken into custody after police say he crashed into an unoccupied car about a block away. Dwayne Nicholas is being charged for possession of unregistered firearm/unlawful possession of a firearm or destructive device while Brandon Figures-Mormon is being charged for assault with intent to kill and possession of unregistered firearm/unlawful possession of a firearm or destructive device.

D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said during a press conference on Thursday that a weapon was recovered from the truck.

There is no known motive for the crash at the time and the incident remains under investigation.
