A Florida Highway Patrol trooper who was critically injured after being struck by a car two months ago was released from the hospital on Friday.
Trooper Carlos Rosario was conducting a traffic stop along the Dolphin Expressway the night of March 17 when he was struck by a distracted driver who was texting, according to WPLG-TV.
The trooper -- who underwent several surgeries and treatment for injuries to his face, spine and lower body -- said upon his release from Jackson Memorial Hospital that he was thankful to be able to go home.
"Because of God's grace, I'm alive," Rosario said during a news conference. "God saved me that day. I know that the road to a full recovery is long, but I thank God everyday that I am alive."
The driver of the vehicle that hit Rosario, identified as 26-year-old Hugo, stayed on the scene after the crash and was arrested last week after detectives determined that he was texting and speeding. He faces charges of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and reckless driving causing property damage.
